➤ 15:00 – 16:30 Artist Talk with Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai
Speaker: Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai
Moderator/Translator: Nguyen Thi Hue, Phan Thi Xuan Quynh (Quinn)
Language: Vietnamese and English
Agenda: Sharing from the artist (30 – 45 min) / Q&A (30 – 45 min)
The event introduces the audience to Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai’s decade-long research and commitment to the stateless ethnic Vietnamese community residing on the Tonlé Sap Lake (Cambodia) and the border areas of Vietnam. Due to multiple historical turmoils followed by discriminatory policies, Khmer Rouge’s ethnic cleansing, and Vietnam’s military intervention, their papers no longer held relevance or lost themselves to the water during constant displacements on boats. In the talk, the artist will share how the journey started and led her to diverse artistic approaches informed by a deep sense of social engagement. The Q&A session will delve into the politics of national belonging and exclusion, socially engaged art, and how these concerns find relevance in the context of Taiwan.
➤ 17:00 – 19:00 Music Performance by Ryan J Raffa and KidEquip
Enjoy an evening of experimental music sets, adding a multi-sensory dimension to the exhibition within Hong-Gah Museum.
※ Free entry – everyone is welcome to explore the exhibition’s physical space before it undergoes its transformation.
We look forward to celebrating with you!
