Crystal Stream Of Dharma – Chen Shin-Chung Solo Exhibition

Chen Shin-Chung, a prominent figure in contemporary Buddhist art, has devoted decades to exploring Buddhism and its artistic expressions. This year, Chen will present a solo exhibition titled “Crystal Stream of Dharma” at the Hong-Gah Museum, showcasing his recent oil and watercolor works that embody Buddhist teachings. He seeks to convey Buddhist wisdom while merging artistic creation with spiritual practice, inviting viewers on a journey of soul purification.
Growing up in a traditional Buddhist family, Chen was deeply influenced by Buddhist teachings and temple culture. In the 1980s, he trained in painting at an art school, laying a solid foundation in Western techniques while integrating his religious understanding into his work. His pieces, known for their delicate brushwork and soft color palettes since the 1990s, reflect a unique style that fosters spiritual dialogue as well as inner enlightenment and tranquility. Chen frequently engages in meditation and studies Buddhist classics to create tangible manifestations of his understanding of Buddhist philosophy.
His oil paintings often delve into the complexities of Buddhist thought, using vibrant colors to portray the essence of Buddhist figures and express their compassion and wisdom. His watercolor pieces, on the other hand, focus on nature, employing blank to evoke boundless aesthetics and contemplation. The exhibition invites viewers to experience refreshing moments for the soul and find peace amid the chaos of everyday life.
